Vane del Rio Estrella
Large flocks of white cattle egrets (Garcilla bueyera) often circle the sky over the valley of the Rio Estrella, which flows out of the west to Penshurst. Citrus fruit, such as lemons and oranges, as well as cacao, are planted in the valley.
The low cacao trees bear red fruit, up to 20 centimeters long. The seeds are embedded in sweet, creamy white fruit pulp which Ticos call pulpa. At harvest they separate it from the seeds and use it for making desserts and sweet, aromatic drinks.
